Hitchens a Hawkeye?
By Morning Journal Sports Staff sports@MorningJournal.com
Anthony Hitchens missed Clearview’s basketball against Buckeye Friday night, but he had a good reason.
According to HawkeyeInsider.com, Hitchens flew out to the University of Iowa for an official campus visit, but there were no reports about Hitchens committing to Iowa. Official signing day for freshman is Feb. 3.
Hitchens is one of the most decorated athletes to walk through the halls of Clearview High School.
On the football field Hitchens became the school’s all-time leading rusher with 3,864 yards, breaking the 35-year-old career rushing record held by his cousin Don Hitchens.
During his senior season, Hitchens rushed for 1,428 and scored 26 total touchdowns. Defensively, he led the Clippers with 76 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and four forced fumbles.
For his career Hitchens finished with 3,864 yards and 62 total touchdowns, and defensively finished with 166 tackles, including 13 for loss, 12 sacks, five interceptions, six forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.
He was awarded the Coca Cola Golden Helmet, which is awarded to the top senior football player in Lorain County.
