High school girls tennis: 2011 News-Herald all-stars

GIRLS TENNIS PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Surya Khadilkar

Senior, Hawken

Khadilkar wrapped up a spectacular four-year career at Hawken with a fourth performance in the Division II state tournament, thus earning second team All-Ohio honors with a win in the first round of the tournament. Khadilkar was Hawken's No. 1 singles player throughout the year. She was named the most valuable player of the Chagrin Valley Conference's Chagrin Division for the second straight year. She was also a district finalist. It's been a decorated career for Khadilkar, who was the News-Herald player of the year as a junior and was a first-team selection as a sophomore and freshman. She plans on playing at the Division III level in college, though she hasn't made her college choice yet.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Arun Jetli, Hawken

It was a career season for Jetli and his program. The longtime coach, one of the most successful coaches both in the high school circles and outside of that arena, led the Hawks to a career-best third-place finish in the Division II state team tournament. Hawken is part of the rugged CVC Chagrin Division and lost to Chagrin Falls and Orange in the regular season, but the Hawks' exceptional postseason run is what set Jetli apart from the rest in the coach of the year running.
