2012 All-Morning Journal Football Team

MORNING JOURNAL/SAM GREENE Clearview running back Chad Anderson had 1,544 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns to lead the Clippers to a playoff berth. Anderson was also All-Patriot Athletic Conference and All-Northeast Ohio Lake District First Team.

MORNING JOURNAL/SAM GREENE Columbia quarterback Jay Banyasz led his team to their first playoff win in school history in 2012.

MORNING JOURNAL/SAM GREENE Elyria receiver Dan Ratliff was named All-Ohio Division I Third Team after catching 40 passes for 625 yards and five touchdowns.

First Team

QB — Cody Callaway, Midview

• Callaway, just a junior, helped lead the Middies to a 9-2 record, which included a playoff berth. He completed 131 of 246 passes for 1,892 yards, including 20 touchdown passes. He also was the All-Northeast Lake District (D-II) Offensive Player of the Year and earned All-Ohio (D-II), All-WSC and All-Northeast Lake District First Team honors.

RB — Ross Douglas, Avon

• Douglas, a Michigan commit, rushed for over 1,000 yards this season, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry. He also scored 20 touchdowns for the season. He was the All-Lorain County Most Valuable Offensive Back of the Year, while also earning All-Ohio (D-II), All-WSC and All-Northeast Lake District First Team honors.

RB — Chad Anderson, Clearview

• Anderson led the county in rushing with 1,544 yards on 256 carries, which includes 16 touchdowns. He was the All-Northeast Lake District Player of the Year (D-IV) and earned All-Ohio (D-IV), All-Patriot Athletic Conference and All-Northeast Lake District First Team honors.

WR — Eric Lauer, Midview

• Lauer, a Kent State commit, caught 40 passes for 868 yards, which includes 13 touchdowns. He made the All-Ohio (D-II) Second Team, along with All-WSC First Team and All-Northeast Lake District First Team.

WR — Dan Ratliff, Elyria

• He caught 40 passes for 625 yards this season, including five touchdowns. He made the All-Ohio (D-I) Third Team, along with earning All-NOC and All-Northeast Lake District First Team honors.

WR — C.J. Conrad, Keystone

• Conrad, just a sophomore, caught a county-best 57 catches for 897 yards, inluding 13 touchdowns. He made the All-Ohio (D-IV) Third Team, along with making the All-PAC, and All-Northeast Lake District First Team.

WR — Gerrell Williams, Clearview

• Williams caught 26 passes for 699 yards this season. He averaged 26.7 yards per catch, which include eight touchdowns. He made the All-Ohio (D-IV) Second Team, along with making the All-PAC, and All-Northeast Lake District First Team.

TE — Kyle Kuhar, Avon Lake

• He earned All-Ohio Special (D-I) Mention honors, along making the All-SWC and All-Northeast Lake District First Team.

OL — Tim Von Salter, Avon

• He was named All-Lorain County Most Valuable Offensive Lineman, along with being an All-Ohio (D-II) Second Team selection (D-II). He also made the All-WSC and All-Northeast Lake District First Teams.

OL — Geno Zappa, Perkins

• He made the All-Ohio (D-III) First Team, along with earning All-SBC and All-Northwest District First Team honors.

OL — Dakota Tallman, Elyria Cath.

• Tallman made the All-Ohio (D-IV) Second Team as an offensive lineman.

OL — Frank Estep, Vermilion

• He made the All-Ohio (D-III) Third Team, along with making All-WSC and All-Northeast Lake District First Teams.

OL — Quentin Horton, Clearview

• He made the All-Ohio (D-IV) First Team, along with earning All-PAC and All-Northeast Lake District First Team honors.

KR — Jimmy Hessel, Avon Lake

• Hessel also led the county in yards receiving with 932 yards on 54 catches. He caught 11 touchdowns. He made the All-Ohio (D-I) First Team, along with being an All-SWC First Teamer and All-Northeast Lake District First Teamer. He was also voted All-Lorain County Most Valuable Defensive Back.

DL — Tracy Sprinkle, Elyria

• Sprinkle, who is headed to Ohio State, shared All-Ohio Defensive Player of the Year honors and made All-Ohio (D-I) First Team. He also was this year’s Lorain County Golden Helmet winner and All-Northeast Lake District Defensive Player of the Year (D-I). He recorded 19 sacks in 10 games.

DL — Guy Schuler, Amherst

• Schuler was an All-Ohio (D-I) Second Team selection, along with making All-SWC and All-Northeast Lake District First Teams.

DL — Alex Kelly, Avon

• He was voted All-Lorain County Co-Most Valuable Defensive Lineman with Sprinkle. He also earned All-WSC and All-Northeast Lake District First Team honors. He also was an All-Ohio (D-II) Third Team selection as an offensive end.

LB — Collin Lucas, Avon Lake

• Lucas made the All-Northeast Lake District Second Team this season.

LB — Connor Kamczyc, Elyria

• Kamczyc, who recorded 14 sacks, made All-Ohio (D-I) First Team, along with making the All-NOC First Team and All-Northeast Lake District First Team.

LB — Zach Hofecker, Firelands

• He was an All-Ohio (D-III) Second Team selection, along with earning All-WSC and All-Northeast Lake District honors.

LB — Kevin Skotko, Avon

• He was an All-Ohio (D-II) First Team selection, along with earning All-WSC and All-Northeast Lake District honors.

DB — Justin Taylor, Elyria Catholic

• Taylor made the All-Ohio (D-IV) First Team as a defensive back. He also earned All-WSC and All-Northeast Lake District First Team honors.

DB — Joe Pappas, Avon Lake

• Pappas led the Shoremen with five interceptions this season. He earned All-Lorain County First Team honors.

DB — Ralph Smith, Avon

• Smith, a Ball State commit, was an All-Ohio (D-II) First Team selection. He also made All-WSC and All-Northeast Lake District First Team. Smith was also a wide receiver standout with 27 catches for 566 yards and seven TDs.

DB — Jason Moore, Oberlin

• He was the All-Lorain County Defensive Back of the Year, while also playing quarterback this season. He earned All-PAC and All-Northeast Lake District First Team honors, along with an All-Ohio (D-V) Special Mention selection.

K — Brendan Matcham, Midview

• He made the All-Ohio (D-II) Second Team and Lorain County First Team as a kicker.

P — Jake Morgan, Brookside

• He made the All-Ohio (D-III) First Team as a punter.
