C.J. Conrad leads Keystone Wildcats over Wellington Dukes (Roundup)
Conrad caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Marcus Gunter to lead Keystone to a 27-14 win over Wellington in Patriot Athletic Conference Stars Division action on Friday night.
Wellington grabbed an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a Tyler Polen two-yard touchdown run. Keystone answered back, tying the game at seven late in the second quarter on a Conrad 40-yard TD reception from Gunter. The game went into halftime deadlocked at 7.
The Wildcats grabbed a 14-7 lead in the third quarter on a Conrad 80-yard TD reception from Gunter for Keystone’s first lead of the game at the 7:55 mark of the third quarter.
Keystone upped its lead to two touchdowns on a Gunter two-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter.
Wellington cut the lead back to a touchdown when Quinton Dendinger scored on a 10-yard TD run with 1:35 left in the third quarter. Keystone put the game away in the fourth quarter on Conrad’s third touchdown of the game, a four-yard TD pass from Gunter at the 7:58 mark of the fourth. On that drive, Conrad also caught a 31-yard pass in a fourth-and-16 situation.
“We just have to play well and do what we do,” Keystone coach Rob Clarico said. “This win should give the kids a lot of motivation going into next week.”
Keystone (3-4, 2-2) will play at Buckeye next Friday, while Wellington (2-6, 2-3) plays at Brookside.
Bellevue 48, Norwalk 21: The Truckers were stopped for the first time this season, losing to the Redmen in Northern Ohio League play.
Norwalk (7-1, 2-1) will play at Willard next Friday.
Olmsted Falls 28, Amherst 14: The Bulldogs won their first game of the season, defeating the Comets in Southwestern Conference action.
Amherst (2-6, 1-4) will host North Olmsted next Friday.
Avon Lake 31, Brecksville 21: The Shoremen bounced back after last week’s loss to Westlake, beating the Bees in SWC play.
Avon Lake (6-2, 4-1) will host Olmsted Falls next Friday.
Fairview 41, Oberlin 0: The Warriors sent the Phoenix to their third-straight loss after a 5-0 start to the season in this Patriot Athletic Conference Stripes Division game.
Oberlin (5-3, 2-3) will play at Lutheran West next Friday.
Black River 63, Brookside 14: The Pirates swashbuckled the Cardinals in PAC Stars Division play, keeping them winless on the season.
Brookside (0-8, 0-5) will host Wellington next Friday.
Columbia 49, Brooklyn 27: The Raiders won their seventh straight game, and remain undefeated in the PAC with this rout over the Hurricanes.
Columbia (7-1, 5-0) will host Fairview next Friday.
Buckeye 35, Firelands 14: The Bucks snapped the Falcons’ 2-game winning streak, defeating Firelands on its homefield in PAC Stars play.
Firelands (2-6, 2-3) travels to play Black River next Friday.
Huron 35, Margaretta 0: The Tigers bounced back, snapping a two-game losing streak, shutting out the Polar Bears in Sandusky Bay Conference play.
Huron (5-3, 3-2) travels to play Port Clinton next Friday.
Perkins 46, Port Clinton 0: The Pirates won their seventh straight game, in another rout, this time over the Redskins in SBC action.
Perkins (7-1, 5-0) plays at Margaretta next Friday.
Rocky River 19, Bay 7: The Pirates kept the Rockets winless in West Shore Conference play, beating Bay at home.
Bay (2-6, 0-5) will play at North Ridgeville next Friday.
Sandusky 27, Shelby 21: The Blue Streaks won their third game of the season, and second in the NOL, defeating the Whippets.
Sandusky (3-5, 2-1) will play at Tiffin Columbian next Friday.
Monroeville 40, South Central 6: The Eagles won their third game of the season, routing the Trojans at home in Firelands Conference play.
Monroeville (3-5, 3-2) will play at New London next Friday.
Edison 63, St. Mary 39: The Chargers put up a season-high 63 points at home against the Panthers in SBC action.
Edison (5-3, 3-2) will play at Clyde next Friday, while St. Mary (2-5, 1-3) travels to Oak Harbor.
St. Paul 30, Plymouth 14: The Flyers cruised by the Big Red in FC action, giving them their fifth win of the season.
St. Paul (5-3, 4-1) will host Crestview next Friday.
