Firelands Falcons beat Keystone Wildcats for second straight win (grid roundup)

LAGRANGE — Don’t look now, but the Firelands Falcons are on a two-game winning streak.

Fresh off their first win of the season last week over Wellington, the Falcons defeated Keystone, 14-7 in Patriot Athletic Conference Stars Division action.

The Falcons scored on a 13-yard touchdown pass from Joe Hyster to Jacob Parker in the second quarter and led 7-0 at halftime.

Firelands added another score on a Hyster 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to put the Falcons up, 14-0. The TD was set up on a 67-yard run by Hyster. Hyster led the Falcons with 158 yards rushing on 22 carries.

Keystone cut the deficit to a touchdown on a 43-yard TD pass from Kobe Whalen to C.J. Conrad at the 4:26 mark of the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats stopped the Falcons on their next possession and got the ball back and had a chance for a game-tying drive, but on a fourth-down-and-10 play, Whalen’s pass fell incomplete.

“We’re starting to come into our own,” Firelands coach Mike Passerrello said. “The kids never quit and our defense never gave up.”
